When the online forum Reddit under the heading, “Anyone else horrified that they make obese mannequins too now?” posted this image of a Size 22-24 mannequin it received some comments–positive and negative.

I know. What else is new?   I am wondering why this mannequin looks so out of proportion? Size 22-24′s what do you think? This is not realistic either?

According to the Center for Disease Control, nearly 70% of Americans fall into the obese category and more women are a size 14 or higher, this topic will be a reoccurring theme in our culture.

Traditionally, mannequins and models have been smaller because it is believed in the fashion industry that smaller is more visually appealing. However, of late, more and more department stores are including plus size mannequins on their showroom floors. This move is in response to consumer demand and the realities of the market.

So, can we make the mannequin look like a real human being, and a representative of today’s plus size woman? Or is this just punishment in some way to make her look as unappealing as possible?

We cannot win…

All the rage this season are warm and cozy, soft sweaters which are the best sought for in the chilly winter months, which is  just ’round the corner.  Plus size women may find difficulty in choosing the right clothing to fit their shape with either too baggy of a sweater or too tight. So, in order to help plus size women, the fashion world has introduced a vast array of choices for the  winter season.

Choosing the Right plus Size Clothes

Browsing various websites, shop your favorite stores  and fill your wardrobe with the latest winter wear.  Whenever you are searching for clothes for winter, always choose clothes with long sleeves, big or full-size, but not too oversized, soft sweaters.  A perfect example is this Neon Buddha Russia Tunic Cardigan.

The color block style is on trend and perfect for mixing and matching with the other pieces in your wardrobe. You can effortlessly match any sweaters or blouses with jeans or slacks. This outfit not only protects you from a chilly winter, but also gives you a stylish and up-to-date look.

Hence, long sleeves and even longer length tunics have been favorite styles for plus size women as it helps to keep you warm and with the flattering longer length, elongates the silhouette. Use tunics such as this Neon Buddha Burlington Striped T-Neck Sweater in a woven cotton so the garment will be appropriate for any kind of weather or condition and not itch or make you overly hot.

I say, “Gladly” and  ”It’s About Time!”

The plus size community of bloggers have banded together to form a community that represents plus size women and all are dedicated to changing the way designers look at plus size fashion–from a transient, “I am going to lose weight” state to talking about clothes that ignore the traditional rules and make the plus size women look and feel good about herself.

One of my students told me that she loves the way I dress and that it shows that being overweight does not mean dressing in frumpy clothing.  YUP!!

I love being able to dress in a way that shows off my positive attributes and serving as a voice for plus size women.

And there are a lot of us all over the world!

The Kardashian Kollection is receiving bad press of late in the U.K. Available at several venues throughout the U.S. and the U. K., the Kardashian Kollection is available in Sizes 8-16, hardly plus size.

While Kim has been quoted as saying that she is not happy about her body shape and wants to lose weight and in the other, she is quoted as saying that she is, “glad to promote a natural body shape, eating well, exercising and appreciating the body she has.”

Many women find these statements contradictory and puzzling and really want a plus size line that represents the majority of the women.

This will be interesting to see how it plays out.

While in London this past week, the Kardashian Kollection sold out…

This family is smart, let’s see if they accommodate!

All individuals regardless of his or her body shape and size like to appear fashionable. This is why the big names among the fashion brands have introduced a completely new selection of plus size clothing. With the introduction of the plus sized fashion, women of all shapes and sizes have the option of appearing hip and trendy at parties and social gatherings.

But, it is not enough to buy just any of the plus size garments to look good. You need keep a few important thing in mind to ensure that you look the best.

Tips on Plus Size Fashion

1.  On the very first hand what is important in deciding what to wear is your comfort level. There is no sense in comprising comfort-ability for the sake of looking fashionable. Remember that if you are awkward with your dress then all the effort you have put behind looking good, will be marred.

What is most important is your positive attitude. Fashionable items are available in abundance in the market. However, what is the use of buying them, if you cannot carry them well? When you appear in the party scene, you must radiate a positive energy! There’s nothing like a great outfit such as this Simply Silk Layer Dress to radiate energy!

2. There is a common notion among plus size women that they appear slimmer in black dresses.  While it is true that black is slimming, it is a good thing to try out different shades and colors. If you can carry various shades, they will obviously match your personality and enhance your style. Moreover, you will have a lot more options to experiment with. One of our favorite colors of the season is turquoise, such as this Neon Buddha turquoise top

3.  One special tip for women with slim legs, it would be wise to try out something like knee-length skirts and show them off.  But, what if your legs aren’t your best asset? You will have ample options regarding ways to cover them. You can rest assured that you will look pretty in them. For instance, evening gowns, long skirts or trousers obviously add a spark to your outfit. Check out these new Teez-Her Skinny Pants! These pants will make your legs and silhouette look fabulous! Great price too!

4. Pay attention to the shoes that curvy women can wear. Experiment as to which styles slim and show off your curves. You may want to look for a shorter, box heel, rather than a spike heel.

5.  People often tend to overlook the necessity of wearing perfect undergarments. They are very necessary.

We recommend our great line of Julie France and n-fini shapewear.

6.  You may want to take a tip from the rich and famous and have your garments tailor-made!

As a curvy woman, you will want to select your clothing and accessories carefully so that you will make the right choice for your shape and stay right in style!

I had to read the reviews twice because I could not believe what I was reading…

At a fashion show for Allistyle, which was named in honor of Alli Shapiro who died in 2006, was suffering from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which made her weight fluctuate. They had a hard time finding clothes Alli could wear, and Alli and her mom began the plus size clothing line.

According to Kevin Naulls, who covered World Mastercard Toronto Fashion Week,

“Except, for some of the front row at this packed show, it was a joke. One gentleman spent the entire show laughing and hiding his face from the photo pit with his line sheet, while others exchanged barbs privately and cackled audibly. Even four different people were overheard talking about how poorly the women walked because they were bigger women on high heels. Why is (fashion show decorum) so militantly followed at all other shows, but when a woman who is a size 12 is sent down the runway, all bets are off?”

Here’s the deal…their line STARTS at a size 8. What’s so funny?

Seriously?  Every time I think we are making some kind of progress, I read about an incident like this and it makes me wonder.  Is  it that the prejudiced will always be prejudiced and small minds will always stay small?

What I know is that those  models had their heads held high!

Some ways to go…
