The #DropThePlus campaign, which was created by former host of The Biggest Loser Australia, actress and author Ajay Rochester and supported by Dita Von Tesse model Stefanio Ferrario, hopes to encourage worldwide reform that will see the fashion industry casting aside the term completely.

They all believe that the use of the term, ‘plus-size’ is ‘damaging for the minds of young girls’ and want to put an end once and for all to size segregation.

In a post on Instagram, Stefania Ferrario – who is a size 12 – wrote: “I am a model FULL STOP. Unfortunately in the modeling industry if you’re above a US size 4 you are considered plus size, and so I’m often labelled a ‘plus size’ model.

“I do NOT find this empowering.”

She continued: “A couple of days ago, Ajay Rochester [@ajayrochester] called the industry to task for its use of the term ‘plus size’ by making the point that it is ‘harmful’ to call a model ‘plus’ and damaging for the minds of young girls.

Rochester explains in her blog, “I wanted to make reference to the fact that using the word PLUS on anyone, least of all someone who could hardly be considered plus size in the “real world” (ie MOST “plus size” models), it  instantly defines them as different, not accepted…. If you define it by “Plus” size and “Regular” Sized models then Plus means “irregular” which means not of the norm.”

Do you think that this new mindset will take hold?  We hope so!

One trend we have seen on the runway this Spring is the continuation of boho chic, but this time with an update.  This style is flattering for plus size women as it provides a draped look and continues with a romantic touch.

No one does it better than our friends at Sienna Rose!

You will see flowy, dreamy silhouettes with a hint of retro from the 60′s and 70′s without all of the volume of the past, but a more fitted and feminine look.  Important rich, vibrant prints and sweeping pastel hues and kaleidoscopic prints are at the front and center of this on trend look from Sienna Rose.   The kaftan style is perfect for plus.

Boho chic also contains the tie dye look and prints that can be mismatched. The kaftan style is perfect for plus size as it minimizes and keeps you on trend and in style.

This comfortable, laid back style is great for casual and can be dressed up for daytime!

Over the past few months, I had been asked to try the Smile Brilliant Teeth Whitening Kit.  Unfortunately, after a few tries I had to discontinue using the system because I had extreme tooth sensitivity.  The process was easy, I made a mold of my upper and lower teeth and sent it in and waited to get my tray back.  After a few weeks, I did receive the tray back and proceeded with the instructions.

After three days, I noticed that my teeth actually hurt and I had trouble drinking hot and cold liquids.  I had a visit scheduled with the dentist in the meantime.  She noted that my teeth were white even after a few tries and I told her what I was using and she said to discontinue as it was normal with some people and wait a few weeks and try it again.
Unfortunately, after a few tries I had to discontinue use altogether.   It was too bad because the process was easy and I did notice a marked difference.  I would encourage anyone to give it a try as the system does work, is easy and convenient to use.

Applause for Kelly Clarkson who is confident enough in her own right to shrug off negative comments about her weight by a British “journalist.”

Clarkson said,  “That’s because she doesn’t know me. I’m awesome! It doesn’t bother me. It’s a free world. Say what you will.”  Clarkson went on to clarify, “I’ve just never cared what people think. It’s more if I’m happy and I’m confident and feeling good, that’s always been my thing. And more so now, since having a family —  I don’t seek out any other acceptance.”

Katie Hopkins, a writer for the British Tabloid, Sun, has been saying negative things about Clarkson’s weight in recent weeks.

Hopkins first took her attacks to Twitter, tweeting negative comments about Clarkson’s weight on Feb. 20, 2015.  Hopkins said, “Jesus, what happened to Kelly Clarkson? Did she eat all of her backing singers? Happily I have wide-screen.” She added, “Darling, if you had a baby a year ago, that is not baby weight. It is fat. Quit calling it cute names to make yourself feel better.”

Good for Clarkson who took the high road and shame on the so-called journalist to judge.  Perhaps she was trying to boost her own profile in the press.  Mean girls never win in the long run, Hopkins.

I’ll admit, there are days when I feel that I can use as much help as I can get.  But, for retailers, are skinny mirrors helping or hurting their business and in the long run, their customers?

On the site, the manufacturers of the Skinny Mirror says that, “The Skinny Mirror offers a subtle slimming reflection (5-10 lbs) that works on the psyche over time. It gives the users the instant visual gratification of a “slimmer you” while educating that how you choose to feel about your body has nothing to do with your actual shape, size or weight.  The Skinny Mirror is successfully inspiring positive self-image in both the home and business.”

Ok, I can see perhaps that having a skinny mirror in your own home may be an advantage at times.  You have set a goal to get in shape and are working towards that goal and a daily reminder of what success will look like, may be a good thing.  But, when retailers use the skinny mirror to sell clothes, especially without telling their customers that is deception.
