Just in time for market and the September Fall Fashion Shows! It’s here! Melissa McCarthy’s Seven7 line made its debut on HSN and the collection will soon be in Nordstroms, Macy’s, Lane Bryant, and Bloomingdales in September. All of her clothes will also be available on her website.
Melissa attended fashion design school and used her experience and her frustration in not being able to find decent clothing to wear on the red carpet, to come up with the clothing. The clothing will come in sizes 4-28 and feature colorful prints, asymmetrical hemlines and on-trend dresses. She made sure the line had denim and that most of her tops had sleeves!
A big “THANK YOU” to movie and television star, Melissa McCarthy has a clothing line in the works! The line is for women of all sizes!
She is launching her own namesake line Melissa McCarthy Seven7 which features an 80-piece line designed by McCarthy herself, for women ranging from sizes 4 to 28!
She said, ”People don’t stop at a size 12. It’s an odd thing that you can’t go shopping with your friends because your store is upstairs hidden by the tire section. We’ll put you gals over there because we don’t want to see you and you probably don’t want to be seen.” Melissa is everywhere and we love to see what she is doing! Here she is on the cover of the June issue of More Magazine!
Melissa McCarthy made lemons out of lemonade when she could not find a designer to design her own dress for the Oscar Awards.
She decided to design her own collection. McCcarthy has partnered with designer, Daniella Pearl to create a line of plus-size clothing for women.McCarthy, who once studied fashion design at Southern Illinois University, wants to rescue other plus size women from clothes that resemble “great grandma’s table cloth, a flower garden, and F&*#ING stretch synthetic fabrics”
We can’t wait to see what she comes up with.

Elle Magazine’s November Cover has received criticism for covering up plus size Melissa McCarthy with an oversize coat. I love the cover. Since the issue has a feature about, “The Perfect Coat Shape” I am not so sure this was to cover up Melissa. Below is Elle’s response to criticism.
“On all of our shoots, our stylists work with the stars to choose pieces they feel good in, and this is no different: Melissa loved this look, and is gorgeous on our cover,” a spokesperson for the Elle said in a statement. “We are thrilled to honor her as one of our Women in Hollywood this year.”
Here we are again! Wouldn’t you know it? Melissa Mc Carthy’s new movie poster for the movie, The Heat has a slimmed down version of the actress’s neck and face?
Poster: 20th Century Fox
What is the message here? Us it that Melissa has to be “trimmed down” in order to be seen as acceptable for a movie-going audience? While it seems as though this is standard practice in Hollywood as Melissa was trimmed down for Bridesmaids as well as Rosie O’ Donnell for one of her films, this practice is unacceptable and discriminatory.
I cannot wait to see this movie. Melissa is laughing all the way to the bank, for sure. She is one of the most talented comedic actresses of our time, but what about the message this poster sends?
Rex Reed is a bully and a bigot. He needs to be let go as a reviewer for the New York Observer, NOW!
What is this? The fourth or fifth post like this in the past year?
Ok, so he disliked Melissa’s new movie, Identity Thief, which is not meant for an Oscar, it is meant just for us to laugh, that’s it! Laugh, mindless, fun, laughter. No sub-plot, no high-brow thoughts, just for us to laugh. Watching Melissa do what Melissa does best, provide a zany character that just simply makes you laugh. Melissa’s bathroom scene (you know the one) in The Bridesmaids, had me laughing so hard, I was crying and could not breathe. Her Saturday Night Live appearance was the ONE appearance where I stayed up the whole time and could not stop laughing with one funny skit after another. As a someone who grew up with SNL, that says a lot! I laugh out loud, OUT LOUD at her sit com Mike & Molly. I do not laugh out loud too often with what is on television today.
And now, this film critic (note film critic, that is all you are, just your opinion for whatever it’s worth, Mr. Reed and it’s not worth much at all.) chooses to focus on her appearance? This talented, beautiful woman who takes our breath away with her comedic range and all you focus on is her appearance?
To single McCarthy out, not for her talent, but her physical appearance and called her obese and tractor-sized with a career that has been a study in being obese and being obnoxious with equal success, is just so feeble minded, I cannot get over it.
Excuse me? That is someone who should be fired and we need to let the New York Observer know our displeasure. He’s out of touch and not with the program, that for sure. So, fire him Immediately. And some in Hollywood are just as angry as I am and agree that he should be let go.
Well, were we ever excited to see our fave plus size actress, the most talented Melissa McCarthy, nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in The Bridesmaids. (this is one movie to RENT!)
At yesterday’s SAG Awards, Melissa wore a lovely navy blue cowl neck dress by Badgley Mischka. This cowl neck look is definitely reminiscent of Pippa and so on trend with the go-to color of Navy!
With several film and television projects in the works along with her own fashion line, we cannot wait to see what is in store this year for Melissa!
She designed her own 2010 Emmy gown with dress maker Daniela Pearl. She says about plus size fashion. ”Trying to find stuff that’s still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible. It’s either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle.”
Well, let’s see if she sticks with Badgley Mischka to dress her for the Oscar’s! She’s definitely off to a great start!

And this week at Black Cat Plus we were excited to learn that Emmy winning actress Melissa McCarthy went to school for clothing and textiles but ended up starting her stand-up comedy instead. Melissa revealed this past week that after searching for something to wear to the Emmy’s and giving up and designing it herself, she is now going to start her own fashion line. We can’t wait to see it!
Have a great week! More as it happens! Check out the latest info from our fave bloggers!
